BA Venture Partners Promotes Jones, Wienbar to Managing Directors
Venture firm also promotes Sigler and hires new CFO and associate

FOSTER CITY, CA-February 7, 2005-BA Venture Partners (BAVP), a venture capital partnership that provides capital and expertise to accelerate market traction for technology and life sciences companies, today announced plans to update their investment team.

Jim Jones and Sharon Wienbar have been promoted to managing directors, and Eric Sigler has been promoted to director. In addition, Tracy Pappas has joined the firm as chief financial officer, and Gaurav Kotak has joined the firm's software group as an associate.

Jim Jones and Sharon Wienbar were previously directors of BAVP. Jones, who joined BAVP in 2000, led investments in and sits on the Boards of Enuclia, Entone, Cornice, MaXXan, and Monolithic Power Systems, which went public in November 2004. Prior to joining BAVP, Jim led product management, product marketing, and business development groups in the Business Communications Group at 3Com Corporation. In his seven years with 3Com, Jim drove the entry into and market leadership of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet solutions as well as the home networking market, and managed a high growth diverse product line up to $1.2B in revenue.

Prior to 3Com, Jim spent 5 years in IC development and marketing with National Semiconductor, focusing on ATM, FDDI, and Ethernet controller and transceiver solutions. Jim holds a BSEE from the University of California, Davis.

Wienbar, who joined the group in 2001, has led investments and joined the Boards of Bellamax, Biz360, FaceTime, Sorrent, and Teros. Prior to joining BAVP, Sharon led marketing at Critical Path and Amplitude Software and was responsible for driving product/service and business integration strategies for a series of acquisitions which led to growth from $16M to more than $140M revenue in one year. Before Amplitude, Sharon led Adobe Systems' entry into and growth in a number of segments, including enterprise applications, web commerce, and the Asian markets. Prior to Adobe, Sharon practiced strategy consulting focused on technology and healthcare companies at Bain & Company. Sharon holds both a BA and MA in Engineering from Harvard University, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Also announced today, was the promotion of Eric Sigler to director. He was previously a principal of the firm. Sigler, who joined BAVP in early 2000 as an associate in the hardware group, led investments in and serves on the Boards of Innovative Micro Technology, (IMT), and Innovion. Prior to BAVP, he was a strategy consultant with Mercer Management Consulting, where he worked with a variety of communications industry clients. He has also held business development and analyst roles at Calimetrics (a fabless IC start-up acquired by LSI Logic), Dataquest (a technology market research firm), and Eastern Research Group (an economic consultancy). Sigler holds a BA in Business from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at U.C. Berkeley.

Tracy Pappas is BAVP's newly appointed CFO and has deep operating and venture experience. She was most recently CFO at Saints Capital. Prior, she was the director of financial planning at Colo.com where she oversaw the closing of a $200 million round of private equity as well as a $300 million high yield debt offering. Other previous roles included controller at Amplitude Software where she was instrumental in the company's acquisition by mobile messaging solutions provider Critical Path; and supervisor of the Information, Communication and Entertainment practice at KPMG Peat Marwick. Ms. Pappas holds a B.A. in Economics from UC Berkeley.

Gaurav Kotak, BAVP's newly named associate, brings extensive software experience to the venture firm. Kotak comes to BAVP from Intuit, where he spent four years as a software engineer and, later, enterprise architect. He was instrumental in the company's creation of electronic license and digital rights management infrastructure and also served as product developer in Intuit's QuickBooks financial services group. Prior to Intuit, he co-founded I-Vantage, an offshore IT, call center and back end solutions provider. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
