NComputing Adds Seasoned Executives As Virtual
PC Demand Accelerates
Bill Platt Joins From Wyse Technology as
SVP of Engineering and Support; Don Beck Joins From Google’s
Postini as SVP of Worldwide Sales
December 11, 2007
REDWOOD CITY, CA, December 11, 2007 – NComputing, the leading
provider of virtualization software and hardware, today announced
the appointment of two additional executives to its growing management
team as global demand for the company's technology continues to
accelerate. Bill Platt was appointed senior vice president of engineering
and support, and heads NComputing's development efforts around
the world. Effective immediately, he will lead the global team
that develops NComputing's desktop virtualization software and
low-cost access devices. NComputing has engineering development
centers in the U.S., Germany, Poland, and South Korea. Platt will
also be responsible for expanding the company's customer support
organization.
Don Beck joins as NComputing's senior vice president of worldwide
sales and leads the company's global sales and field technical
sales teams. Both executives will play key leadership roles in
directing NComputing's strategic growth as the company expands
into new regions and markets.
With more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry,
Bill Platt brings world-class leadership to NComputing's executive
team. Before joining NComputing, he was EVP of products at Wyse
Technology, a leader in thin client computing. Prior to Wyse, he
was vice president of the operating platforms group at Sun Microsystems,
where he was responsible for the Java Enterprise System and Solaris
products. Before that, Bill was instrumental in helping Sun build
its field service and support organization. Sun experienced enormous
growth during Platt's 15-year tenure with the company, as he built
and ran organizations such as Americas Customer Care and Asia Pacific
Customer Services. Bill earned a B.S. in Systems Engineering from
the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Economics from the
Wharton School.
Don Beck, a seasoned sales executive with experience growing early-stage
companies into successful global organizations, brings almost 30
years of sales experience with some of the world's largest and
most admired technology companies. Most recently, he served as
SVP of worldwide sales for Postini, the global leader in on-demand
communications security, which was acquired by Google in July 2007.
Prior to Postini, he spent five years as vice president of North
American solution sales at Adobe Systems. Beck also spent almost
20 years working for IBM and has held management-level positions
at other world-class enterprises, including EVP of worldwide sales
operations at Brio Software (acquired by Hyperion) and vice president
of channel sales at J.D. Edwards & Company.
"As NComputing enters the next phase of its technology and market
development, Don and Bill bring a wealth of experience with both
early-stage companies as well as global technology leaders," said
Stephen Dukker, chairman and CEO of NComputing. "Their team-building
skills, strategic relationships and understanding of the PC virtualization
industry make them ideal additions to NComputing."
"This is an exciting time to join NComputing -- it is pushing
the envelope on virtualization software and ultra-thin client technology
while providing affordable computing to students and workers around
the world," said Platt, "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity
to bring the power of computing to the next billion people."
"I'm excited to join NComputing at a time of tremendous growth
opportunity," said Beck. "What NComputing has done for educational
computing is fully applicable to many other industry sectors and
geographic markets and I look forward to helping the company successfully
expand its market reach."
The NComputing solution, available with both Linux and Windows
operating systems, capitalizes on a simple fact: Today's PCs are
so powerful that the vast majority of applications only use a small
fraction of their computing capacity. NComputing's virtualization
software taps this unused capacity so that it can be simultaneously
shared by multiple users. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse
are connected to a very small and highly reliable access device,
which is then connected to the shared PC. The access device itself
has no CPU, memory, or moving parts, and the solution is easy to
deploy and maintain. NComputing systems cost as little as $70 per
seat.
