Health-care media company Waterfront Media Inc. has acquired natural-search
company Netramind in an effort to enhance its search engine throughout
its properties.
The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Netramind, with offices in Santa Clara, Calif., and Mumbai, India,
works to provide search engine optimization services to clients.
"We're ecstatic to have 25-plus people now in California and India," Waterfront
Media co-founder and Chief Executive Ben Wolin said of the transaction,
which closed May 30.
Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Waterfront Media will serve as Netramind's
only client in search engine optimization services, Wolin said.
The services will help the company boost its visibility in searches
on the Web, he said, while Waterfront Media is interested in other
potential similar acquisition opportunities.
Waterfront Media raised a $25 million Series D round in September
2007, bringing the total raised by the company to more than $37
million, according to VentureWire records. Investors participating
in the company's previous rounds include BEV Capital, Foundation
Capital, NeoCarta Ventures, Rho Capital Partners, Scale Venture
Partners, Star Ventures, Time Warner Investments and Village Ventures.
"We're profitable, plenty of the cash on the balance sheet," Wolin
said. "We're not out there raising capital."
Waterfront Media operates Web properties including Everyday Health,
a site devoted to general health care information, as well as more
specialized sites, including sites devoted to the Zone and Sonoma
diets, the What to Expect When You're Expecting brand, and fitness
with Jillian Michaels and Denise Austin.
