Horizon Therapeutics Inc. said Timothy P. Walbert has been named president, chief executive and member of the board of directors.

Walbert most recently has been president and chief executive of IDM Pharma Inc., a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of products that activate the immune system to treat cancer. Prior to IDM Pharma, Walbert served as executive vice president, commercial operations at NeoPharm Inc. and divisional vice president and general manager of Abbott Immunology and divisional vice president of global cardiovascular marketing.

Horizon Therapeutics is a late-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of therapies for the treatment of mild-to-moderate pain and arthritis. In July 2007, the company raised a $30 million third round to complete clinical trials for a painkiller that's easy on the stomach. New investor Essex Woodlands Health Ventures led the round, which also drew return backers Scale Venture Partners, Sutter Hill Ventures and Pequot Ventures, according to VentureWire archives. The Palo Alto, Calif., company has raised a total of $51 million.
