Jeff Calcagno focuses on healthcare investments, including biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, healthcare services, and healthcare IT. Jeff is currently a Board observer at Horizon Therapeutics, Sonexa Therapeutics, and Zogenix, and was actively involved with Orexigen Therapeutics (NASDAQ: OREX). He volunteers as an adviser to women-led entrepreneurial teams in the Astia Network.

Jeff joined Scale Venture Partners as a Kauffman Fellow in 2006. Previously, he was Chief Business Officer & Chief Financial Officer for Vela Pharmaceuticals, a venture-backed biopharmaceutical company. Earlier, Jeff ran corporate development and operations for WIDCOMM, a software company acquired by Broadcom (NASDAQ: BRCM). Jeff provided company coverage and industry analyses as a healthcare services research analyst for Hambrecht & Quist. He began his business career as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company, advising two of the top five pharmaceutical companies on strategic and operational issues.

Jeff graduated Phi Beta Kappa in Biology from Harvard College and earned an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He completed his medical internship and psychiatry residency, and was awarded a neuropharmacology fellowship at UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Institute. A Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, he speaks six languages.
