Dale Chang

Dale Chang leads Scale’s operations, including marketing, platform, and data. He builds the tools and teams to support evolving go-to-market strategies, as well as providing best practices and benchmarks across the portfolio.
A Bay Area native, Dale spent his early career in sales and operations at startups including Proofpoint and Jaspersoft. He joined Scale from the Alexander Group, where he led the cloud practice and advised companies including Salesforce, LinkedIn, Box, and Docusign. He has a BA in History from UCLA and MBA from the University of Texas.
A founding member of the VC Platform community, Dale pushes to redefine what platform means in venture. He is a pioneer in integrating data into venture capital decision making and a thought leader in forging its next chapter. He is a regular speaker about the future of platform in venture and a contributor to the Power of Platform report.
Early in his tenure, he built Scale Studio, a database where startups can benchmark the operating metrics that matter, and regularly shares data driven insights with publications like Crunchbase and the Wall Street Journal. His current focus is how AI can support better investment decision making.
When not at the office, Dale can be found court- or stage-side at one of his children’s extracurriculars, on the slopes in Tahoe, or hunting for the best smoked meat (which is often in his own backyard).
