Harry Plumer

Harry is Chief Architect at Scale, responsible for the firm's internal software tooling.

Harry studied Journalism at the University of Missouri and spent a year in the field before pivoting to business and eventually technology. It's a less unusual path than it looks: journalism is fundamentally a training in figuring out what actually matters and cutting the rest, which turns out to be the whole job in tech too, translating a messy domain problem into the one technical solution that's actually worth building. It's also where Harry picked up his love of the em dash — decades before it became the internet's favorite tell for "AI wrote this."

Before Scale, Harry spent three years at JPMorgan as Principal Architect following its acquisition of Aumni, a startup building portfolio management software for venture capital firms — giving him a rare vantage point on this industry from the vendor side before joining a firm on the other side of the table. Harry believes the best companies take the work seriously without taking themselves too seriously, and that you can tell a lot about a place by how much laughter you hear in the hallways.

A native New Englander, Harry now lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. Outside of work, he's usually on a golf course, tennis court, soccer field, or hockey rink, getting outcompeted by his son.
